How to talk into a camera in public?
I got great news for ya! I bought a van! I will go into further detail about this crazy news in an upcoming video but I just had to announce it. Paulo joined my small celebration which ended up in one of those balcony sessions. Especially when it’s so hot in Hamburg, we sit on the balcony and talk about all kinds of stuff. The day after I was going to buy some timber because Mellow asked me to build a room divider for them, which doubles as the background for an outside marketing stand. Unfortunately, I did not get the timber from the wholesaler because they were too busy, it was too hot and they were about to shut on the Friday afternoon. Not the greatest that could’ve happen but there’s nothing I can do about it. In the video I mentioned as well that I will have a couple of videos in line, which are coming up. I filmed so much and edited so little in the past time, I really need to get my shit together. Document versus create! It is tough though, because next to filming and editing, I got my job, I need to plan everything for the trip, I’m building a homepage, selling all my stuff and so on. Moreover, I finally finished the dancing video of Paulo and Aleks.
When I was going through some of the footage of myself talking, I realised that I was constantly looking around to see if anyone was watching. I probably fear the judgement. In the video I was getting a little bit closer to vlogging in public. I was not inside in my room but outside on the balcony, which isn’t much of a big difference, I know but it’s so freaking weird.
Why do I care so much about the opinion of other people? Why do I fear being judged? Exactly this is one reason though, why I am going for the trip and why I am trying to document wherever I will go.
When I tried to do it on the balcony though, I noticed that it is a lot easier when you focus completely on the camera (lens) and yourself talking, than what’s happening around you. Practice makes perfect!
That would be my first tip for talking into a camera in public:
- Focus on yourself talking
- And focus on the camera
- Pretend the camera is an actual person
